Helmerich Author Award

The Peggy V. Helmerich Distinguished Author Award is an annual award given by the Tulsa Library Trust. Its purpose is to give formal recognition, on behalf of the Tulsa County community, to internationally acclaimed authors who have written a distinguished body of work and made a major contribution to the field of literature and letters. The award consists of a $40,000 cash prize and an engraved crystal book.


Gala

Annually, on the first Friday in December a black-tie dinner is held where the winning author accepts their award and gives a presentation.


Student Program

Each year, a book by the winning author is donated to Tulsa area classroom students and the teachers design a curriculum around the book. On the first Friday in December the students are given a private presentation by the author.


Public Presentation

On the first Saturday morning in December at Central Library, the winning author gives a free presentation to the public followed by time for questions, answers, and book signing.
